About KEDARKANTHA Trek

One of the best treks in India Kedarkantha is a fun winter trek that takes the seriousness out of trekking. It is almost like going on a 5-day active vacation. The trek is recommended for all adventure souls who like snow and high mountains, irrespective of the prior experience. Beginners are more than welcome. Kedarkantha Trek starts from Sankri in Uttarakhand which is one of the best trekking places in India. The highlights of Kedarkantha trek are the beautiful campsites, snow-covered pine forests, 360-degree view of the mountains and the chance to stand on top of one of the easiest trekkable peaks in the Himalayas. The total Kedarkantha trek distance is 20 Kms. The height of the Kedarkantha peak is 12,500 ft. You will get to see Godly peaks like Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch during Kedarkantha and come back absolutely thrilled and refreshed. The best time to do Kedarkantha Trek(for snow) is December to February.

Daywise Itinerary

Day 01

Dehadun to Sankari (Altitude 6,400Ft 220km drive – approx 10hrs)

The trip which leads you to the Kedarkantha Trek will start from Dehradun Railway Station with a morning pick up at 7.00 AM. We will drive to Sankri via the queen of hills i.e. Mussoorie.

Ironically, popular tourist destinations don’t even deserve your attention when you’re on a bigger journey like this. The total distance from Dehradun to Sankri is around 200 km and the total drive hours will be 9 to 10.

Mussoorie is not just another hill station on the way but has a pretty rich history in itself. Many of the famous writers referred to Mussoorie. E.g., Bill Aitkin, Stephen Alter, and Ruskin Bond. In between the route to Sankri, via Mussourrie, alongside the Yamuna and Tons rivers.

The drive also passes by beautiful pine forests. On reaching Sankri, we will explore the scenic hamlet to prepare for the trek that lies ahead and overnight stay at Sankri.

You can also spot the British architecture around the town. Snow-clad hills start to show up in the distance from Mussoorie onwards. We will also have the awesome views of “Kempty Falls” en-routing Sankri. Sankri is the base camp of this exhilarating expedition and the entry point to the charismatic Har Ki Dun.

The scenic village that is conveniently situated at 1950 meters on the pinnacle conveniently, In the Valley with exhilarating views of the Himalayas. It is magically located 13 km inside the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary.

The beautiful sun setting behind the Himalayas coupled with the shimmer of the Swargarohini peak makes Sankri an ideal base camp amidst the ridges. Reaching Sankri, we will explore the scenic hamlet to prepare for the Kedarkantha trek that lays ahead and overnight stay at Sankri.

Day 02

Sankari to Juda ka Talab (Altitude 6,400Ft to 9,100Ft 4km trek, approx 5hrs )

We will start our day with hot, scrumptious breakfast and after that we will start our climbing, which will be a moderate hiking. It will take almost 4 to 5 hours to reach the final point. We will pass through dense forests of Kedarkantha.

While climbing we will walk through Saur village, We will get transient glimpses of snow-covered mountains of the Himalayas but the best view is yet to come on this Kedarkantha Trek. Juda-ka-Talab (which is frozen during winters) situated at the height of 2800m.

An hour’s walk will lead us to the meadows where we will stay for the night. Overnight stay will be in tents.

Day 03

Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha (Altitude 9,100Ft to 11,250Ft/ 4km trek approx 3hrs)

KedarKantha Trek base becomes our destination for the day and we start for it post breakfast.

Today will be a busy day for the shutterbugs as the trek route is beautiful with open views on all sides and vast snowfields decorated with green patches. However, our destination is even more impressive. The route is around 4 to 5 hours long.

Imagine vast open, snowfields, the size of two football fields, a stream running by, and misty mountains forming the background – this is the KedarKantha Trek base where we will camp overnight in tents. We told you it was impressive!

Day 04

Base Camp – Kedarkantha Peak – Hargaon Camp (Altitude 11,250Ft to 12,500Ft/ 6km trek approx 7hrs)

If the Kedarkantha Trek base is that stunning you can imagine the beauty of summit. Today will be a busy day for the shutterbugs as the trek route is beautiful with open views on all side and vast snow fields decorated with green patches.

To the Kedarkantha peak it would be a steep climb as well as it might be a little difficult too; depending on the snow. It would be a short route and it will not take more than 2-3 hours.

As for the view from the top – you will be able to see all the mountains of the Yumnotri, Gangotri, and the Kinner Kailash range, plus the valleys.

However, our destination is even more impressive. Imagine a vast open, snowfields, the size of two football fields, a stream running by, and misty mountains forming the background

Next, we will descend the Kedarkantha Peak and trek all the way down to Hargaon Camp or an alternate campsite, depending on which route we choose. Overnight in tents.

Day 05

Hargaon Camp – Sankri ( Altitude 8,900Ft to 6,400Ft/ 6km trek approx 4hrs)

We will return today after an early breakfast. It is a short trek and will only last a couple of hours. We will reach Sankri at around 12 o’clock and then you will have whole days to ream in the local village.

Day 06

Sankri – Rishikesh (270km Drive, approx 11hrs)

After having overnight rest at Sankri. Early Morning from Sankri board the vehicle for Rishikesh Camping Side. Arrival at Camping site in the evening. Chill out with delicious snacks and DJ nights with Bonfire. Later Dinner and New Year Celebration.

Arrive in Rishikesh by around late afternoon 6.00 PM. The glorious trip to Kedarkantha ends here.

Cancellation Policy

1. Before 30 days: 90% of total Land Package Cost is refundable
2. Between 21−30 days: 75% of total Land Package Cost is refundable
3. Between 11−20 days: 50% of total Land Package Cost is refundable
4. Less than 10 days: No refund

Other Terms & Policies

Team Ultimate can change the Sequence of the day-wise tour program/Itinerary without any prior notice. It may Change depending upon traffic schedules/restrictions, landslides, flight amendments, weather conditions or any other travel related unforeseen circumstances.

In case of cancellation of the group from our end due to any unavoidable circumstances, we will either transfer the booking in our other fixed departure trips or refund the complete amount except flight charges if any.

Team Ultimate takes utmost care to ensure the safety of its members during any of the adventure programs. However, in the case of any unforeseen mishaps, Team Ultimat will not be liable for any injuries caused or for loss of life. All disputes arising due to the above will be subject to the jurisdiction of Uttarakhand only. All participants would be required to sign an Indemnity Form before the start of the program, without which traveller would not be allowed to participate in any of the adventure programs.

The package price does not include – Expenses of personal nature, such as laundry, telephone calls, room service, alcoholic beverages, mini bar charges, tips, portage/ offloading charges during any trip, monument fees, camera fees etc.

Package rates are subject to change without prior notice, Force Majeure events, strikes, fairs, festivals, weather conditions, traffic problems, overbooking of hotels/flights, cancellation/re-routing of flights, closure of / entry restrictions at a place of a visit, etc. We would not be held liable for any refunds/compensation claims arising out of this.

It is mandatory for all guests to carry valid photo ID’s (Passport/Driving License/Voter ID Card). PAN Card is not accepted at many places as a valid photo ID.

Team Ultimate reserves right to dismiss any client from the tour due to any form of misbehaviour, unreasonable quarrel or physical/verbal assault affecting a client or any of the Ground Field Staff.

Frequently Asked Questions:

 Its is advisable to book this trek before 15 days.

Dehradun is around 250km from Delhi by road. So many trains are well connected to Dehradun and as well Haridwar, which is 50km away from Dehradun. The nearest airport is Jolly Grand Airport.

During day time the temperature will be around 8° to 12° and during night it will fall down to -5°

Trekking shoes are not mandatory but, it will make the trek comfortable. Take a shoe with a good grip and high ankle support. It would be better if the shoes are waterproof.

There is bath facility at only our base camp Sankri.

Yes, men and women will not be sharing tents, unless they want.

We provide food for 4 times in a day i.e. Breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner.

Carry an original ID card and a photograph.

Yes we do provide Toilet tents.

Yes, Sudden weather changes are expected, always carry a light rain coat or waterproof windcheater/poncho.

In Sankri you will only get BSNL mobile network. In other locations you won’t have any network.
